In a collaborative project with LUNGevity Foundation, USA, I had the opportunity to analyze around 700 lung cancer drugs. This large and complex dataset needed an appropriate and layered visualization so cancer patients can understand the information.
To guide the readers into a tiered reading, I classified this dataset according to Hallmarks of Cancer – biological properties shared by all types of cancers. As patients let us know that they understand pie charts clearly, I chose a sunburst plot which retained the data classification of pie charts while helping the reader to compare and contrast drugs for specific lung cancer subtypes within the big picture.
